Depending which problems they had it might well have been fixed.
The ePub code has been improved/upgraded more than a few times as the archive has been developed. I think it still occasionally has problems with very large stories or stories with lots of embedded images/media (although I haven't tried either of those again recently) but I download ePubs from there on a very regular basis and haven't hit a problem recently.
