Folks, I often don't open my laptop until noon or later. Since my timezone is GMT+7, that's awfully late for anyone in Europe, and these posts are fairly useless.

BUT! Note that there's a "subscribe" button at the top of the Early Bird Books page. If you subscribe, you'll get a daily email that lists a dozen or so discounted books, as well as early notification of these massive sales. (This one hit my inbox at 5:20 A.M.)

Also check out Bookbub -- https://www.bookbub.com/ If you sign up, you select the genres you like to read and your seller of choice. Then you get a daily email with approximately 15 to 30 discounted books in your selected genres. Bookbub doesn't have the massive sales like Early Bird Books, but often there are 3 or 4 titles "free" in the daily list. (At least, in the Romance genre.)

"Giant" is their description, not mine, but they tout 1,500 books on sale.

Note that you can select different retailers in the top drop-down menu, and specific genres in the list to the left.

Sale ends at "midnight." They never say which midnight, but I suspect it's one of the U.S timezones, which are UTC-5 to UTC-8.

I found this thread on the Mobileread forums which discuss preferred eInk fonts, and it got me wondering what everybody here uses.

For me, I switched to Bookerly once it became available and never looked back. I also typically read at size 6-7!

What about you? What's your favorite eInk font?

My new fave ereader: mReader on muOS via PortMaster [comes with muOS] on Anbernic RG CubeXX [handheld console, about $100 USD].

Legal DRM-free epub of Steven Erikson's GARDENS OF THE MOON from Tor.com forever ago.

Reading experience is weirdly great given the, uh, nonstandard hardware! :D

The Cecelia and Kate Novels (ebook) are on sale today for $3

The Cecelia and Kate Novels by Patricia C. Wrede and Caroline Stevermer, are a collection of three books consisting of: Sorcery and Cecilia, or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot, book 2 is The Grand Tour, or, The Purloined Coronation Regalia, and book 3 is The Mislaid Magician, or, Ten Years After.

These are Regency period books that are a lot of fun. Cecelia and Kate are cousins, and are supposed to go to The Season, but one of them gets into trouble and gets grounded, and is forced to stay at her father's in the country. The other has to attend all of those parties and teas, etc. The story is told as a series of letters between the two girls, each chapter a letter between the two authors, the form known as epistolatory fiction.

This is cool stuff!

The first book revolves around a wizard (magic is real and accepted in this England) losing his focus, a magic chocolate pot) and both girls becoming involved in it. The second has the girls married and on their honeymoon, and shenanigans ensue on The Continent when evil-doers attempt a return of the older gods. In this case, the letters become diary entries. The third book sees the disappearance of a European wizard who was looking into an oddity of the British railroads, returning to the letters format, but adding in letters from the two husbands, who are close friends beginning even before the first book when they served with the PM-to-be Wellington.

There's just the three books, though there's also a short story.

Edit: Oh, and a note about how Smashwords author royalties work (from r/MM_RomanceBooks):

About author payouts, per Smashwords policy: They pay authors and publishers up to 80% of list price or more when the customer's cart total is over $9.00.

So, if you have a bunch of free or cheap books in your cart, try to make sure your total is at least $9 so that the author gets the maximum payout possible.

Amazon ending Download & Transfer by USB

FYI mainly for US folks:

Starting February 26, 2025, the “Download & Transfer via USB” option will no longer be available. You can still send Kindle books to your Wi-Fi enabled devices by selecting the “Deliver or Remove from Device” option.

This is very annoying for a variety of reasons but technically you can still download your books to your Kindle, and then move that file to your computer (and/or into Calibre if you use that program). It's more likely to be in KFX format than AZW3, however, and I'm not sure if DRM can be removed from KFX format...

What the title says. Books are 99 cents, but I can't find when the sale ends. The site also warns that some may not be on sale outside the U.S and U.K.

Hmm... at the bottom of the site, there's a countdown clock of 4-1/2 days -- but I'm not sure if that's the book sale or the promotional give-away for winning a free Kindle.

Regardless, if light mysteries with quirky characters are your jam (I think Cozy demands quirky characters), check it out soon.

As far as I can tell, the sale runs all the way to midnight at the end of Sunday -- but it may be different in other time-zones; you'll have to check. Regardless, you have time to stock up if cozy mysteries are your jam.

Anyway -- a bunch of Cozy mysteries on sale. I counted 20, with 3 multi-book collections available.

The given link goes to Amazon, but if you click on the book cover, you can select different book sellers. Also, the site notes that "Some Books May Not Be On Sale Outside the U.S."
