Kobo Touch: Any help?

Hi,

I've owned a Kobo Touch for a day and a half. It's pretty great! I put fanfic on it, and a few things from Project Gutenberg. I'm trying to use Calibre to customize the cover pages for fanfic.
I tried using squee!Book and failed a few times.

But what I'm having issues with right now is the touch-screen.
When I was first reading, it took me a little while to figure out that I needed to tap in the lower-right corner of the screen to turn the page. Once I did, reading went fine!

Yesterday, I set the Kobo Touch inside my purse, and didn't touch it for a few hours. (I went to a football game; the Touch stayed inside.)

I tried using the e-reader last night; the single button on the bottom works, but I can't tap the screen to turn the page.

I powered it off/on again.

This morning, I tried to turn pages and it still didn't work.
I connected it to my laptop with the USB cord. I cannot fully "connect" it to my computer to manage files because to do so, I have to tap "Connect" on the Kobo screen.

Basically: The tap/touch feature seems to be not working, after a day of infrequent use.
Has this happened to anyone else?
I am not very good with technology, so there could be something easy I'm missing, and wanted to check in with others.

Does this sound like a case where I need to take it back to Best Buy and get it replaced, or something?

When I googled your problem, I found this article. Sounds like it might be the reader itself?

Sorry that I can't be much help. I've never encountered anything like that on my Sonys. I've been kind of looking at the Kobo Touch for a while now too... :(

Mobile Reads has a forum thread that says you might try downgrading your firmware?

Do you have a reset button on your reader? I've had to use that once or twice on various readers to get it working again. Just a thought.

Good luck, though! I hope it's just a very small temporary glitch that goes away soon :)

I had the same issue with my Kobo Touch for a while and had to do a hard reset to restore what I would call normal functionality to the touch screen. The problem started after I started using it with Calibre, and I also saw the same storage error warning reported on this thread at MobileRead after I would eject the Kobo via Calibre. I ended up doing a hard reset and, per that thread, I eject the Kobo via Finder on my Mac now (or the sys tray in Windows) rather than through Calibre. It's been a few weeks and the touch screen is back to normal, I can tap anywhere on the right or left side of the page and it responds without a lag, and I haven't had any other problems with it.

Note: If you do want to do a hard reset and can't access the Kobo's menus via the touch screen, you can still do one by powering the device off and holding the home button while it's powering up. After you reset you might want to leave it connected for an hour or so just to ensure it's fully charged. Good luck!

If you still have issues after resetting and/or downgrading the firmware, I would think about taking it back if you can. :( Like I said, I love it now that it works, but if I had had the option of returning it after I read through some of those threads at MobileRead -- I got mine at a Borders closeout, all sales were final-- I would have seriously considered it because this model seems pretty buggy.

I also have a Kobo Touch and have had no problems with it since I bought it back in, hmm, late September or early October. I don't have to touch in specific areas to turn the page - anywhere on the side works for me. You can program this, you know, through the advanced settings (that is an option when you tap in the middle and get the menu across the bottom - tap the wrench and then 'advanced settings').

Yeah, I'd try the reset button.
