Upgrading the PRS-500
Sony is offering to do a firmware upgrade to the Sony PRS-500 so that it can use ePub properly. Apparently come December the 500 without the firmware upgrade will not be able to download books from the Sony ebookstore. Details are here.
Mind you, you have to mail your reader to them and you get it back in 14 days. (I wonder if they will fix the dink on my screen?) Make sure you back up your stuff, or at least take your porn off. :)
If you want to trade it in for a new reader instead they will knock off $50 for a Pocket Reader or $75 for the Touch Edition. (Too bad I already bought a Touch Edition... Fry's had it $20 cheaper than retail at the time).
