eReader and Fictionwise cutting prices
eReader to match Amazon eBook pricing:
Has anyone bought anything from eReader or Fictionwise lately? I haven't, mostly because I got tired of the higher prices AND having to strip the DRM from my .mobi purchases, so this is an interesting development indeed.
I was thrilled to get this notice today from Fictionwise that details its new pricing scheme:
- No e-book priced over $12.
- All new e-books $9.95 or less
- All New York Times bestsellers $9.95
- Plus 15% rewards on all purchases

I had noticed that FW's prices were higher than a lot of other places. FW still has the higher prices; it's only eReader that offers these new deals. (Oddly, Lord of the Rings trilogy is $9.95, but each individual book in it is $12.95. I suppose they'll get more weirdness like that if they've got a price cap.)

I think they may be testing the market by using the pricing in just one of their stores, but I'm not sure it's even worth the effort or the potential confusion for customers to lower prices if they aren't doing it across the board.
