free book from university of chicago press

The University of Chicago Press's monthly free book is available for November: Presumption: An Entertainment: A Sequel to Pride and Prejudice by Julia Barrett (originally published in 1995).

This witty sequel to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice follows the fate of Georgiana Darcy, Mr. Darcy's younger sister, who must choose between two suitors, a well-placed navy captain and a brash young architect. Masterfully adapted to Austen's original nineteenth-century style, Presumption brings back to life the book's most memorable characters, the Bennets, Darcys, Collins, and de Bourghs.

You need to provide an email address to download the book; file format is either PDF or epub, and you'll need Adobe Digital Editions to open it.

PDF and Epub are open and widely supported formats. Why is a particular app required? Are they DRM-protecting a free book for some reason?

Yup, they're DRMed. However, Calibre and the Apprentice Alf tools will de-drm them just fine.

Also, UChicago gives away a free ebook every month on a wide variety of (mostly nonfiction) topics.
