New Sony eReader

On October 2nd, Sony will be releasing their newest eReader model. It has a 6-inch screen and wi-fi capabilities and is currently priced for pre-order at $149US. *salivates* It looks like the battery life is better than last year's models. It also comes with a cable for charging via a computer and one for wall-charging an adapter to turn that  cable into a wall-charger. I do not need this new thing. I love my eReader. *whimper*

PINK. Ahhh I love when they're available in colors. I love my black Kobo, but I'm sure hoping they come out with real colors--by which I don't mean a grey or lilac-grey back for a white device--in some future iteration.

ARGH! I lost my Sony PRS-300 a couple weeks ago, and I just bought a Kobo as a replacement, as it was cheaper and lighter than the Sony PRS-350, plus has wifi, plus is 6-inch screen...now I'm wishing I'd waited and jumped on this one. Phooey.

I am dithering! One reason I bought it (actually just ordered it, it's not arrived yet) is that it has a web browser - not clear that the new Sony does. Is saving one ounce, and getting audio capability, worth the extra $20? Hmm. ARGH!

I am going to wait to see one of these in action, as I'm not fond of the touchscreen idea, but I like the rest of Sony's setup. I want an upgrade to my 505, and this is the first thing I've seen ANYWHERE that looks like it actually works for that. (I got a Pocket EZReader. I love the smaller screen; I'm not too happy with the navigation software. Need to make a post about that someday.)

Even if it's not My Perfect New EReader, I may wind up getting one for my husband, and giving his PRS-300 (with the smaller screen & no memory card slot) to the 13-year-old.

I said to myself, "I don't need one. I like my PRS-650. I love my PRS-650. I ..." *Clicks on pre-order page on Sony Store website* I know I should hate myself but I'll do that later. If I'm lucky it will ship out and be in my mailbox before October 2nd.

Now to figure out what to do with PRS-650 (might give it to a friend at work), PRS-600, PRS-500. Oh and my sister has a PRS-300 she doesn't want. She has a PRS-505 but after making fun of me pre-ordering, hours later she did the EXACT SAME THING!

Don't be sorry. It's all her fault that I have this unreasonable amount of Sony readers and keep collecting more. I'm very happy to see her tempted for a change.

Thank you :)

Ha! I love this. *bounces* It's so nice to see you get tempted for a change :*

If you decide you want to sell your PRS 650 instead I know of a good home for it.

I've been eyeing the newest Sony reader ever since I saw an article about it somewhere. No, I have not been drooling over it.

*sniffs*

Really, I haven't.

You realize you've created a monster when you "showed" me your reader several years ago, don't you? Are you ready to accept responsibility for my not being able to stop collecting Sony readers? *stares hard* :P

I'm thinking of replacing my much used Classic nook sometime in the next six months or so. I'm now keeping an eye on this new Sony ereder and see how it'll hold against the (supposed to be released for the holiday season) newer Kindle.

The only reason why I am even remotely interested on the new Kindle is 'cause s supposed to be touchscreen only. I'll be the first one to admit that the tipping point against buying a Kindle is the keyboard on the bottom. It pinged me, I don't know, wrong.

Would've bought the Sony Touch when I went to buy an ereader, but I totally fell for the slick aesthetics of the nook.

I love my PRS 650, bought last year for Xmas, it was a novelty, here in France. I'm very tempted to buy this new one, but somehow, we don't have "wi-fi" everywhere here... It would be good when at home, or in a McDonalds, where I'm rarely... maybe some specific café... Really not worth it. I'll stick with my PRS 650 :) Love it, it's red, love red....

I do that too, I use calibre a lot. BTW, did you change the Sony soft for the one 'improved' over at MobileRead? or did you keep it like it was when you bought it?

I don't see that it comes with an AC adaptor? All I see included is the USB charger.

Babaca explained it below. I was looking at what was included in the box and only saw "USB cable." It seems to be a very adaptable USB cable. ;)

The power adapter is really the usb cable that has a usb ac plug you use to make it the adapter. My android phone has that also, you plug the usb plug to run it off the electricity or you take the plug off and run it on your computer. Mind you my android phone is the same micro-usb as my reader so on trips I take the phone's usb cable and use it to power both the phone and the reader. :)

Aha! I've heard of these, but never seen one myself. Sounds like an extra little part for me to possibly lose. *^_^*
