Want fanfics in the "personal documents" section on Kindle Fire, not "Books"!

Howdy, y'all. I'm having a bit of a problem with my Kindle Fire... it displays all the fanfiction I've put on it as "Books"! This is very bad, because, well, as you may know, fanfiction isn't exactly something I'd want the average "Ooh, can I look at your Kindle" person to see when they start browsing through my books.

I had previously converted the fanfiction files (from .pdf to .mobi) through Calibre, and yes, the [PDOC] tag is still there... which is why I don't understand why the Kindle is filing them under "Books." Does anyone know how to fix this?

Afraid I'm bewildered why anyone wouldn't want them as books. The file type it makes sense the Kindle would process them as such. I don't know how you can change that (my reader is not a Kindle).

I guess I'm also boggled--though, admittedly, my Kindle keyboard has specific collections for fic. If people are wandering through my Kindle? Well, one would hope they don't happen on the porn, but it can't be much worse than them happening on the romance novels.

along with the others who've answered, i have always filed my fanfics as books on my kindle, never thought of doing otherwise. i have directories and put all the fanfic under one called 'internet'. if someone wants to play on my kindle, i stick them in my reference directory, which has my dictionary, thesaurus, writing books etc, and let them have at it.

as trialia says, it's logical for the kindle to treat a .mobi as a book, but i can see where that would be frustrating given that you used to be able to get around it.

good luck in finding a way to fix it, or finding another method where you feel safe with your device and random oh-cool-let-me-see folk ♥

hmmm, i was just looking through the amazon help pages, and it looks like directories (what they call 'collections') goes away with kindle fire. on every other menu for a kindle in the support section, there's a 'organizing your kindle content' section that includes adding your own collections from the home menu. with the fire, you only get their collections. it looks like its default is to show all collections on the bookshelf, and then be able to filter to a specific collection (books, personal docs, magazines, etc). so in fact, it may be that your fanfic books are still personal docs, if you filtered to such, but showing in your unfiltered home. i've never played with a fire, so i'm just speculating here.

maybe you should rename all your fic to something that starts with a 'z' or something that would at least put them at the bottom of the bookshelf? or title them all something v. boring so no one will want to poke at them? wish i could be more help ::pets::
