LRF weirdness with Calibre 0.7.44

I've got version 0.7.44 and I'm noticing that when it converts epubs to lrfs, the file size is like ten times the size of the original epub (like 1.0 MB or more when files I converted on older versions are much, much smaller.) and my 505 chokes on it. I've been trying to download one really long story from A03, and I'm converting it because the epub from the site comes up empty in my reader every time. It works if I convert it to RTF and load that. If I convert to LRF, it never loads and freezes my reader. Anyone having a similar problem with this version?

AO3 ebooked stories with pictures in them (even LJ names with the little person-icon) will crash a Sony Reader; the auto-creation of epub uses a link to the picture that the Sony can't deal with. I assume that converting the epub to lrf contains the same problem.

Converting to RTF removes the problem; whether the pic is there or just a link, the Sony doesn't see it.

I haven't had the chance to test the ebooks on other readers (Jetbook, Nook, any of the Jinke variants) to find out if it's a Sony-specific glitch, or anything that tries to read epubs with linked-but-not-included pictures is going to have problems.

And once in a while, a story with no pictures just doesn't work. If I can get a list of those, I can start taking apart the epub and maybe find what's causing the problems.

HOWEVER: Converting the downloaded epub to epub through Calibre should work; that removes the weird link problem with images. (And fixes other problem epubs.)

Oooh new Tony/Steve fic ... I mean, ahem, when I read RTFs, I set the body font to 15 or larger and then it works out fine. (I used to set it to 17; I've gradually moved down.) I'm often too lazy to convert to a real ebook format; I read a lot of things in RTF.

Huh, interesting. I've have a Sony 350, and I don't have that problem. I do use Calibre to move the epubs to my reader, but it doesn't seem to do any converting unless I tell it to.

Charming Demeter's Daughter It has double <br> instead of paragraphs, which made my PRS-505 choke.

Also, anything that goes over the 300k uncompressed/100k compressed file size limit (i.e. long unchaptered works). Example: The Seventh Circle Of Hell

I filed a bug with AO3 a while back so they are aware of the problem. I use [personal profile] elf's suggestion of converting from epub to epub. I just do that automatically for every AO3 file that I download. It just takes a second and sidesteps so much potential aggrevation.

I don't convert to lrf but I don't see it as a bug on the calibre bug list. Here is where you would go to file a bug: http://calibre-ebook.com/bugs
