Language support for Adobe Digital Editions?

Hi guys. I tried recently to download and read Chinese ebooks (in epub format), and found that Adobe Digital Editions appears not to support the fonts. I've noticed earlier that even symbols like é weren't being rendered properly, but this novel is entirely rendered in question marks. I tried to look around online for solutions, but most of them are from message boards dated 2009-10 and seem to point at new updates, which isn't very helpful. I do have Asian fonts installed (I don't have a reader - this is my computer); they display correctly in other applications.

Anyone have suggestions or ideas about fixing this? Thanks in advance!

Are you trying to read the stories on your computer or on an e-ink device?

If you're reading on your computer do all epub readers show the same question marks in place of the proper characters?

I'm reading on my computer. I'm not sure about multiple epub-format readers - there's more than one? (I thought it was only Adobe Digital Editions, but I'm not very well informed about the different choices.)

There are different epub readers. It may not hurt to try the Calibre viewer or the Sony Reader viewer. Some programs render fonts differently if I remember correctly. It may not hurt to ask your question at the Mobile Read community. There are thousands of people using the site and they are pretty good about answering technical questions. It's where I go when I'm stumped.
