Just hoping I can borrow your brains! My sister loves reading comics and I was thinking about getting her a device of some kind which would let her store and read e-comics on the go. Problem is, I'm not really sure what's out there!

She's very happy with her laptop and not that interested in a tablet, so I don't want to get something mega expensive like an Ipad and pay for all the extra bells and whistles.

From my research I think I'm looking for something:

With colour

A large screen size - Most comics are formatted at approaching A4 size and constantly having to zoom and scroll to read the dialogue would become annoying quickly and might stop you wanting to use it.

A fair sized memory - comics eat up space quickly. I think the ideal set up would be a device with an expandable SD card slot so she could load up her different collections and then swap them in and out as she wished. But that would be an ideal luxury add on.

Powerful enough that the pages load quickly and keep the reading experience smooth.

A comic reader app and a way to get the files on to it easily.

Does anyone use a device for reading comics that they'd recommend? Or know of something that might be good for this purpose that I could research more?

Thank you!

HI, I have a calibre conversion question fandom people might understand better than MobileRead forumers.

I had the fanfiction downloader program called Graffer installed on my comp. I was happy with it because it would download fics from multiple sources and produced clean html files. Unfortunately it's creator gave up on the program and it is no longer updated, and it has stopped working for several major archives.

My work on converting my fics via calibre is slow, ad I often want to chuck my comp out the window, that's how frustrated calibre makes me feel. I was expecting import and conversion to be fairly straightforward, but calibre kept messing up the authors. I finally loked at the html coding and discovered that Graffer added a line in the metadata section which calibre would read as author name, but was actually the name of the programmer: <meta name='author' content='Grzegorz Hordynski' />

I wet to MobileRead to see if I can find a way to change this line in the html file automatically through bulk convert, but couldn't figure out the instructions or the regexes. I've been having a back and forth conversation with a member who doesn't understand what I'm after, so does anyone here know how to set up calibre so that it changes the programmer's name into the correct author name for selected ebooks in the actual html file, not just in the metadata?

Apparently I am. I fixed my Reader problem.

1. I reset the reader to default settings

2. I copied all the files off the sd card to my computer desktop [here I noticed there were 2 Sony Reader folders; One called Sony Reader and the other Sony_Reader. They had the same files in it but the database setup in the database folders were different]

3. With the sd card in the reader, I went to Settings->Initializations->Format Memory->SD Card and let it reformat the card

4. After that finished I plugged the reader to my computer and saw in the sd drive that the folder is called Sony_Reader

5. I copied over the files to the Sony_Reader folder and only moved the database folder that was in the Sony_Reader folder on my computer desktop

6. Disconnected the reader from the computer and let it read what was on the sd card. This will take a while if you have a lot of books (I have about 200 titles). After a while you can look at your titles, it may take a while for the thumbnail images of the books to load but let it do its thing.

7. Read a book, press the home button and see... NO MORE CONTENT MANAGER ERRORS! NO MORE CRASHING! YES!

Ah I also notice the reader DOES has the software on it as a partitioned drive. I don't know why it didn't try to install on my computer, but I guess that's what I get for not reading the instructions?

I guess now I can try to enjoy my reader without having to send it back to Sony.

Yeah baby!
